Ford Models Blog

Carmen Dell’Orefice | V68 Winter 2010/2011 by Damien Neva

The Ford Models Blog has two framed pictures on its walls, both classics. The first is a limited edition concert bill for The Jesus Lizard, the legendary rock outfit fronted by David Yow. The second is of Carmen Dell’Orefice, the genuinely iconic model who started modeling as a teenager for the agency founded by Eileen Ford and her late husband Jerry. In both can be found a timelessness unique and unshared with their contemporaries past and present. Unlike The Jesus Lizard, however Carmen continues to ply her trade and features in V68 Winter 2010/2011, “The Who Cares about Age Issue,” photographed by Glen Luchford.

Titled “Four Women” the story styled by Beat Bolliger opens with Carmen, 79, wearing a Dolce & Gabbana shirt, Chanel Watch, and rope necklace by Lynn Ban. For her second look Carmen models a coat by John Galliano, Mango turtleneck, Lynn Ban cuff (her left), Cartier love bracelet (her right), and Wolford tights. Truly gorgeous! Voice is given to the legend with the inclusion of the quotation, “Don’t ever try to be someone else. You have to be creative and understand yourself.” These words would sound trite if they weren’t spoken from a position of immense experience that Carmen possesses. The Ford Model Blog couldn’t agree more with the sentiment and has to look no further than up at its own walls for the sort of inspiration that has sustained a career over as many decades Carmen’s.

My sentiments exactly, Syssi. Carmen is so unique. I am 55 years old, and refuse to look like a 20 year. If I do not see Carmen, on the runway or in a magazine, then I am not interested.
