The Ford Models Blog has long maintained that a strong connection exists between music and fashion. To that end it’s done everything from interviewing members of Anti-Pop Consortium to taking suit measurements of globe-trotting producer Diplo. Today, however the argument couldn’t be an easier sell than it is for the latest installment of the “Introducing Ford Models” series. Meet Filip Pogády, 6’1½” (187 cm) 23-year-old Slovakian-born Slovakia-Austria dual national, a violinist who studies in a master’s program at the Manhattan School of Music and is the latest model to join Ford Men Direct.
Filip was born in Bratislava, Slovakia and at age four moved with his family across the border to Austria where he spent the rest of his youth and early adulthood in Linz. He started playing the violin at an early age and went on to formally study music in Würzburg, Germany and later Vienna. A year and half ago he moved to New York to pursue graduate studies under the direction of the esteemed Pinchas Zukerman. Filip is set to graduate in the spring and in the meantime has happened onto a most unexpected career in modeling. Prompted by friends to give modeling a shot, Filip somewhat grudgingly followed suit not quite sure that the contrasting worlds of modeling and classical music could in fact be balanced. A day later Filip was invited to the agency on Fifth Avenue where he signed a contract and joined the Ford Men Direct board, which amongst others is home to Bernard Fouquet, Daniel Liu, and Marcus Andersson.
Since putting pen to paper Filip has gotten off to a flying start and last month by featured in the Calvin Klein Spring 2011 Presentation. Following in the footsteps of another “Introducing Ford Models” alumnus, Michael Wozniak, Filip was given a sharp new haircut courtesy of Calvin Klein. After having longer hair for several years Filip is enjoying the new do, which gives his face considerable definition that ought to make casting directors and clients take notice. It of course goes without saying that Filip possesses a distinctive Continental charm that will distinguish him from just any Calvin model. To absolutely seal the deal and also to bring this music-fashion discussion full circle, Filip performs a selection from “Hora Mărțișorului” by Romanian composer and violinist Grigoraș Dinicu in his introductory video.
