Ford Models Blog

Aiden Andrews & Linus Gustin | VMAN 21 Spring 2011 by Damien Neva

It says a lot about a magazine the as the editor of the Ford Models Blog I’m willing to hoof it (OK, take a cab) downtown to said magazine’s lavish HQ. That is precisely what happened Monday afternoon when I left the agency to visit the Mercer St. offices of Visionaire, V, and VMAN to relieve editor-in-chief Stephen Gan‘s men’s quarterly of one cellophaned VMAN 21. Why the journey IRL when the stories can easily be found on the interweb? I’ll tell you why — VMAN is best experienced corporeally and especially so when Monday Ford Men’s Linus Gustin and Petey Wright were on hand in all-white suits to personally wrap and seal the issue with an actual dollar bill coming out of Kanye West‘s mouth — the newsstand version has no such frills.

Cash and beautiful dark somethingorothers aside, VMAN 21 also offers an editorial titled “Gymnasium” by photographer Kacper Kasprzyk that features Aiden Andrews and Linus Gustin. The pictorial situates its subjects somewhere reminiscent of 1930s Central Europe wearing designer basics conducive to the athletic conditioning suggested by the story’s title. For his first look and the story’s opener Linus wears a top and trousers by Marc Jacobs and a cummerbund by Ann Demeulemeester. Aiden’s opening look extends the classic styling by the story’s fashion editor Tom Van Dorpe with a hat by Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent top, and Raf Simons shorts. It is doubtful even Leni Riefenstahl (she’s dead of course) could have achieved this aesthetic as cleanly and efficiently as Kacper Kasprzyk has done with this story. Any magazine that can serve up black and white minimalism with a money-mouthed Kanye West cover as VMAN has deserves high praise.

Please visit the VMAN 21 assembly line at 11 Mercer St. in Soho today, Tuesday, between 1100-1500 for your issue with a dollar bill coming out of Kanye West’s mouth personally shrink-wrapped by Ford C Smith and Mike Derr of Ford Men. On Monday three lucky people found a fifty dollar bill in Ye’s mouth…could today be your lucky day?
