Introducing Zakaria Khiare by Damien Neva

Meet Zakaria Khiare, 18-year-old Denmark native, who is one of the latest and much vaunted Ford Men signatories. I first met Zakaria in Milano last month at a late-night dinner a couple days before the menswear shows began. Zakaria was party to a very crowded grouping of tables around which sat many of his mates from Unique Copehagen. Despite all the handsome models from Copehagen’s premier agency as well as that from Ford Homme Paris, Zakaria was easily the stand out. To start, Zakaria’s olive complexion and dark hair, which he owes to his parents, both of whom are from Morocco, set him apart from the other Scandinavian lads. Beyond perfect skin there was a coolness about Zakaria that made him all the more intriguing compared to his compatriots whose faces had ruddied from hours of drink and revelry. Zakaria’s cool, calm demeanor served him in good stead in Milano as he went on to feature amongst others for Costume National Homme, John Varvatos, Burberry Prorsum, Moschino, and Z Zegna.

Zakaria came to New York early this month to feature for the Tommy Hilfiger F/W 11 show and, crucially, ink a deal with Ford Men. A week ago he visited my office for the requisite “entrance interview” appearance for the Introducing Ford Models series. During the brief interview we discussed how Unique’s Jesper Thomsen discovered him some eighteen months ago whilst he was playing football. Jesper wanted him to model and Zakaria was into it. Simple as that. Zakaria’s passion as a midfielder extends to his support of Arsenal FC. On the afternoon of the interview Arsenal were playing FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League and Zakaria somewhat presciently and, I might add, correctly predicted a victory for the Gunners. Whether or not Zakaria’s club wins or loses, there is no question that Ford Men have a winner in the young model from Copenhagen. Furthermore, anyone with Zakaria’s moxie to compliment New York by calling it “fucking fit” during their recorded agency blog interview is a star in my book. Well done, son, come back to the City very soon!
