It was a Tuesday evening, the sixth of an eight-day fashion tryst we call New York Fashion Week F/W 11. Set inside the cavernous Park Avenue Armory with its creaky wooden floors the Marc by Marc Jacobs F/W 11 show featured thirty-five different looks that presented what Max Berlinger called a “primmer, nerdier version of the Seventies, but with Jacobs’ vim, of course.” The last look to conclude this fall collection was a long, sleeveless silk purple dress. Wearing that narrow dress for the 2010 CFDA Womenwear Designer of the Year’s other line, now in its tenth year, was a young model from the Ford Women board. Meet Allaire Heisig, 17-year-old Long Island native, who has received nothing short of a rapturous reception leading up to and following her important closer.
I had a chance to meet with the Allaire days after the show to whilst working on this introductory profile of hers. She has a sweet smile with a disarming twinkle in her eye, which made the interview all the more a breeze. Of course since that momentous Tuesday night Allaire has been well busy with go-sees, casting, and school — she’s only still in her third of high school! Despite all the positive attention, Allaire is keeping her feet firmly on the ground so as to not build up too much expectation. To that end for the most part she keeps her life as a model and a life as a high school student separate. Not that Allaire couldn’t handle the pressure; it’s simply a wise decision that will no doubt endear to more than yours truly.
Casting directors for one are also smitten. The Marc by Marc casting went so well that Allaire was even tipped as the closer days before the show. Given minute-by-minute casting changes that happen for the shows Allaire didn’t dwell too heavily on those words. That said, everything went according to the script and there’s no reason to think it won’t continue doing so for Allaire. Until her next feature on this page, please enjoy this short interview and new portraits as a part of the Introducing Ford Models series.
