$16K Brunch Takeaway for Japan by Damien Neva

Who doesn’t love brunch takeaway? Avocado toast with spicy eggs¹ in a box. Wild mushroom kale, parsley and goat cheese omelet² wrapped in aluminum foil. Mimosa in a paper cup. Enticing as those sound, none are the takeaway I was thinking. In fact, it’s the takeaway from the brunch happening hosted this past Saturday by Ford’s Alana Zimmer and Women’s Britt Maren at The Fat Radish that I had in mind. Together Alana and Britt marshaled the resources of the aforementioned fine restaurant as well as artists, musicians, designers, and other talented people to help raise $16,617 for the Japan Society‘s efforts in providing relief to the regions devastated by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami of 11 March. Amongst others attending the brunch included Hanne Gaby Odiele, Alyona Osmanova, Christian Brylle, Russell Marsh, Michelle Lee, and Douglas Perrett to name but a select few from the capacity crowd. Having also attended I cannot say enough how highly I am impressed by the organization of these two young women — full marks to both.

Alana Zimmer and Britt Maren would like to extend thanks to Jillian Loyas, Oscar and Derek, Tommy Mendes, Institute of Culinary Education, Dr. Alkaitis, Ling Skincare, Yogaworks, Ion Salon, Aquavit, artists Mike Baca and Fernando Romero, musicians (in order of appearance) Carl and Matt, John Darling, Marybeth, and, last but certainly not least, Bo Bruce. Alana and Britt also would like to give extra special thanks to Ben, Phil, Caroline, Nick and the rest of the amazing staff at The Fat Radish, whom cannot be thanked enough for all that they did to make the event a huge success.
