Veranika Antsipava | Vogue China March 2011 by Damien Neva

In the annals of magazine publishing history, the repurposing of a story for publication in a different market has about the same level of breaking news buzz as a coma in progress. Nevertheless the story that unfolds says more about Magazine Mountain and my periodical-purchasing habits than it does about the vast Condé Nast empire. The story is simple. Having made my regular monthly purchase of Vogue China, I discovered that Ford’s Veranika Antsipava features in the March 2011 issue photographed by Carter Smith in a “skin care” editorial curiously titled “Lazy = Ugly.” Well, it turns out this story also ran as a proper fashion editorial in Allure March 2011 under the title “Flora & Fauna.” Pretentious tosser that I am, I didn’t actual have that (or any) issue of Allure. In the end, however my reference issue is Vogue China. What I can say is that senior beauty editor Solo Li makes a meal of this shoot by filling several supporting pages with cosmetics product shots and enough Chinese characters to fill a Shanghai comedy club. Verdict: buy Allure March 2011, save $25, and see way more of the Byelorussian model, whom we all fancy.
