Aiden Andrews | “Hydropower” by Sharif Hamza by Damien Neva

And finally for some Nowness…from Wednesday of this week, which late on a Friday sounds more like thenness, but nevertheless involves Ford Men’s Aiden Andrews, which is more like foreverness. The short and long of this Sharif Hamza petit masterpiece for video titled “Hydropower” is seeing Aiden a part of a men’s crew team. The only way this video that was shot at the London Regatta Center, Docklands, London could be improved would be for Aiden to be doing everything shown, but with cats. Now that would be some serious nowness.

Ming Xi, Tao Okamoto & Aiden Andrews | V72 Fall Preview 2011 by Damien Neva

V72, the self-described “Transformation Issue,” takes metamorphosis as its theme. To that end the Fall Preview 2011 issue is chock full of change, rebirth, and renewal courtesy of a like themed letter on page 24, a beauty makeover subscription card, and a Penélope Cruz cover story by Mert & Marcus. Mr. V loves him some Penélope! There is also a lovely 30th birthday greeting to Michael Kors on pages 80-81 that features Ford’s Ming Xi, Tao Okamoto, and Ford Men’s Aiden Andrews. When isn’t the perennially young designer who turns 52 next month not celebrating his 30th? Truly. But, alas it is his label is celebrating its pearl anniversary and with a classy Fall 2011 collection. “No matter what we do, no matter what changes in the world, every woman I know wants to look taller and thinner and sexier,” Kors explains. “That’s never gonna change.” No doubt Aiden aspires to the same. All the same, Michael Kors, happy birthday on what is the big 3-0.

Paris Mode Masculine P/E 2012 Review by Damien Neva

Buried under Magazine Mountain is an urgent sticky note that reads “Paris Mode Masculine PE 2012! N’oubliez pas!” The little French I do know has resulted either in a chastening glass of champagne in the face or a chastening glass sans champagne in the face. Needless to say trotting out the language with which William conquered England in 1066 is not my wont. But, talk of French and fall 2011 couture winding down today has me thinking this morning would be a good time to once and for all bury those increasingly moribund Paris menswear shows. The headlines from Milano were clearly translated for our francophone friends for it was they who duly followed suit and also booked Adrien Sahores on the most shows of the week — thirteen (13) to raise his total to an astounding twenty-five (25) for the season. Rare is the model who does well in either Milano or Paris and rarer still is a master of both cities in all their disparity. Adrien’s Twitter hashtag of #ThisGuyMan now truly makes sense, no? Adrien’s feat is followed closely behind by Adrian Bosch and Aiden Andrews, both of whom featured in eight (8) shows with the latter notching fifteen (15) for the entire season. Elsewhere there were impressive openers by Francisco Lachowski (Issey Miyake), Lyle Lodwick (Comme des Garçons), Sen Mitsuji (Phillip Lim 3.1), and Zakaria Khiare (Paul Smith). All told, the Paris shows for our guys weren’t too shabby. Until next January, it’s au revoir for this menswear season in Paris… .

Milano Moda Uomo P/E 2012 Review by Damien Neva

Just as every dinner bill in Italy must be paid, whether it’s for the sort of cibo di strada peddled by Villa D’Este or aperetivi markedly less humble, so too comes the day of reckoning for every proper runway season to grace this page. Milano is still fresh in mind and even fresher still with the below show tallies meticulously tabulated by Rachel Walgrove. With the dizzying number of shows compressed into what is more realistically three and half rather than four days there are likely to be some unintended omissions, but for the most part this list rings true. Let’s start at the top with Adrien Sahores, who walked in thirteen (13) shows, closing three (3) shows including Z Zegna, DSquared², and Nicole Fahri. Next of course is Francisco Lachowski, who featured in twelve (12) shows, opening and closing Ermanno Scervino. Nikola Jovanovic was the third most ubiquitous model from the Ford Men ranks having walked in eight (8) shows, which is a logical outcome of him no longer being all but exclusive to the house of Gucci. Paolo Anchisi might have only walked on the first day of the season, but having opened Dolce & Gabbana, he couldn’t have sent out a stronger message of intent for the coming season. Having been in Milano for a week I believe I’ve caught a glimpse of the season to come. New boys were scouted by my Ford Men colleagues and like Adrien Sahores, Harry Goodwins, and Zakaria Khiare last season before them, they too are set to join the industry’s number one men’s board. Until then, however you can revel in the boys Ford Men currently represents with the below show listings and videos produced throughout the week. Until next January, it’s arrivederci for this menswear season in Milano… .
